Kupwara
In the sheltered fields of Bramri, Kupwara, a place rich in agricultural fields; a story of progress, perseverance, and transformation is quietly unfolding.
At its heart stands Humaira, a resident of Bramri in Kupwara, fondly known as the "Garlic Girl of Kupwara", a shining example of a new generation turning toward agriculture with passion and purpose.
A resident of Bamra village in Kupwara district and a BBA student by qualification, Humaira has taken a bold step towards self-reliance by venturing into garlic cultivation, choosing the path less travelled in a region where many pursue conventional employment.
She began her journey by cultivating garlic on just two kanals of agricultural land. With hard work, determination, and support from the Department of Agriculture in Kupwara, she has now successfully expanded her farming to nearly five to six kanals.
Humaira’s initiative focuses on protected cultivation methods, and her success has not only secured her own livelihood but also created employment opportunities for over six individuals in her locality, spreading the fruits of progress far and wide.
Proud of her achievement, Humaira says, "Instead of running after a government job, I chose to become a job provider". Her story stands as a powerful affirmation; proving that determination and innovation in agriculture can lead to economic independence and community empowerment.
Her greenhouse farming model holds great promise for transforming rural livelihoods and encouraging other young people to explore the vast potential of modern, sustainable agriculture; a path toward renewal, dignity, and a future forged by their own hands.
