BJP General Secretary for Jammu and Kashmir, Ashok Koul Saturday said that National Conference (NC) has betrayed the public trust by failing to fulfill the promises made in the election manifesto. He also took a jibe at the Congress party, alleging it of taking political mileage over the demand of restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
"Congress has recently protested for the restoration of statehood, but why has their alliance partner NC remained silent on the same issue?" questioned Koul while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a party function in north Kashmir’s Handwara.
"The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have promised restoration of statehood, so there was no need to politicize the issue. Statehood will be restored at an appropriate time," added Koul.
Koul claimed that the BJP was emerging as the largest political force in Kashmir, as more people across the region were getting affiliated with the party’s vision and leadership.
Marking Kargil Vijay Diwas, Koul also paid tribute to the fallen soldiers. "Before coming to Handwara, we paid our respects at the Kargil martyr statue in main chowk Kupwara. Today we remember all the bravehearts who laid down their lives for the nation," he said.
The event witnessed the joining of several political workers from different political parties into the BJP, giving a boost to the party’s presence in the district. Senior BJP leaders including G M Mir, State Secretary Mudasir Wani, IT Convenor Advocate Sajid Yousuf Shah, and Kupwara District President were present on the occasion.
The function was organised by senior BJP leader Javid Ahmad Qureshi, who welcomed the new members and said the BJP’s development-focused agenda is attracting increasing public support across Kupwara district.
