The Health Department Kupwara marked World Population Day with a district-level awareness programme at ANMT School Kupwara on Thursday. Organised under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Medical Officer (Dy CMO), the event witnessed active participation from ASHA workers, healthcare professionals, and departmental officials.
Themed “To Leave No One Behind, Count Everyone”, this year’s observance aimed to highlight the need for inclusive, community-centred strategies in population and health planning.
Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, Dr Masrat Iqbal Wani, in his keynote address, lauded the vital role of grassroots health workers in addressing demographic challenges.
“Population stabilisation isn’t merely a statistical concern; it’s a cornerstone for a healthier, more equitable future,” he said, adding that ASHA workers and other frontline staff remain central to this effort.
Dr Wani also stressed the importance of awareness around family planning, maternal and adolescent health, and community-level education to promote informed decision-making and sustainable development.
The programme included interactive sessions on reproductive health, the distribution of IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) material, and an open forum where health workers shared field insights and experiences.
Deputy CMO Kupwara praised the dedication of ASHA workers and reaffirmed the department’s resolve to expand outreach and public health initiatives across the district.
The event concluded with a collective pledge to strengthen population welfare and public health education through collaborative community engagement.
